Spacers for Braces in Virginia Beach, VA
Before getting braces, it is sometimes necessary to create space between the back teeth to fit bands around them using spacers for braces. Drs. Savage, Sabol & Visser often use spacers on patients living in and around Virginia Beach, Norfolk, and Chesapeake, including residents of Virginia’s eastern shore to spread teeth apart ever so slightly so that anchor bands may fit between the teeth. Our patients can start treatment for as little as $99 with low monthly payments.
What are Spacers for Braces?
Orthodontic spacers are tiny doughnut-shaped elastic separators placed between back molars to spread teeth apart just before braces are applied. Some braces require anchor bands on the back molars to secure the wires at each end. To ensure the bands fit around the teeth, it is important to make sure there is enough room between the adjacent teeth for the band to slip over the teeth.
How Much Do Spacers for Braces Cost?
The spacers do not cost anything on their own as they are part of the entire orthodontic treatment plan. We discuss the orthodontic treatment cost with each patient during a complimentary consultation in addition to our payment and financing options. We also recommend patients bring dental insurance information so that we can determine if you have any coverage for orthodontics, and work toward reducing your out-of-pocket expense and making your treatment more affordable. At Savage, Sabol and Visser, we offer orthodontic treatment options for just $99 down and as little as $200 a month.
When Do I Need Spacers?
Spacers are typically placed between the necessary teeth a week prior to the actual appointment to apply braces. If they slip out close to the time of the appointment, then the spacers for braces have done their job and the teeth are ready for the bands. It is important to avoid sticky and chewy foods when wearing the spacers to ensure they stay in place for as long as possible.
Do Spacers for Braces Have to Be Taken Out?
For many patients, orthodontic spacers simply fall out or become dislodged on their own after the teeth have sufficiently shifted to allow room for the bands. For those that do not fall out, an orthodontist or trained assistant can easily and painlessly remove them. If one is dislodged within a day or two of getting them, please call the office to determine if you need to get a replacement.
Does It Hurt to Wear Spacers for Braces?
The spacers do not hurt to wear; however, there may be some very slight discomfort as the teeth shift apart. It is very minimal and resolves itself within a day.
